AMD has released its new Opteron HE (Highly Efficient) Quad-core server processors today. These energy-efficient x86 server processors require low power at 55-watts compared to its predecessors that use 75-watts.
“These new processors which feature AMD’s advanced power management and virtualization innovations offer a compelling platform for power-conscious datacenter managers who are changing the way they think about performance.” said Randy Allen, corporate vice president and general manager, Server and Workstation Division.
The new Opteron HE processors are developed in both 2300 and 8300 series. The price for 2300 series ranges between $200 to $380 while 8300 series ranges between $700 to $900. Hopefully these new chips could spice up the business for AMD.
